Choice of Time Zone

Please ask your programmers to offer a choice of time zone when setting up an instrument. The choice could be simple, like either Exchange time where the instrument is actually traded or the Users Local time. I live in Australia and trade the Emini Indexes the Russell, S&P, Nasdex and Dow. The problem is that these markets open at 11.30pm (my local time) Monday night for Mondays trading in Chigago and these markets close at 6.30am Tuesday again my local time. I can't put these times in the Properties dialogue it just doesn't work so I must use Continuous contracts which adds lots of very low volome to my charts. If you want to look at an example of setting up an instrument with these choices you can look at MultiCharts under "Format Symbols"

I tried looking for this - can I set a chart to use Exchange time as (to me) this is the only logical way to view it ? Sorry if I'm asking the same question as others.

Please right click in the chart and select properties. Then set the session begins and ends times (use your local time).

That doesn't change the time on the chart Jessica. Also, this is for ES/YM but I use a 24-hour chart.

Unfortunately changing the timezone of a chart to e.g. exchange is not supported. However, we have it on our list of future considerations yet.

Timezone in charts would be great. Please consider different daylight saving times (CET to EST is 6 hrs normal - EST summer time start 9.3.2008: time tiff is 5 hrs - 30.3.2008 CET summer time start: 6 hrs again). Needed e.g. to backtest without a break on a summertime change (or changing computer timezone to EST).

Also, session begin and session end won't work properly if the session end is less than the session begin. For example, on the west coast of the US, the Euro Stoxx starts at 11pm and ends at 1pm. If you leave the default of 12:00 am for both start and end, the session line draws at midnight which is 1 hour after the open.

Great. The midnight line always is painted at midnight of your local timezone. Session settings have no impact there.

Any idea when time zone selection will be available ? I assume that the data is stored according to the time on the chart, not the exchange time ?

This impacts Pivots.

Also, when (trying) to write strategies, I will need to have a cutover point for pre-NT collected data and NT collected data or for historical testing against live running. So, start time will be 9:30 am for pre and 14:31 for after (I'm based in the UK).
