    ATMs Disappear for 2nd Connection when Ninjatrader Closes

    I currently have 2 connections running when I have Ninjatrader 7 open.

    1. Futures (via NTBrokerage/CQG)
    2. Forex (Via FXCM)

    The Futures connection is the default and opens at StartUp. I then manually connect Forex.

    If I take Forex trades I see the ATM’s on my chart and the entries in the Positions tab. However, if Ninjatrader is closed or crashes …

    1. My ATMs no longer appear on my charts
    2. The P/L of these trades no longer appear in the positions tab.
    3. There is also no MAE, MFE for any of my forex trades

    How do I resolve these issues?
    And will the same issues occur if I have the same 2 connections running in Ninjatrader 8?

    I'd like to first emphasize that this scenario is only possible when trading to the sim101 account and is not possible when live trading.

    This is a known limitation of the sim101 engine. The root of the issue you're experiencing is the fact that you're connecting to a futures-only connection first and then a forex connection second. You then trade forex instruments.

    When connections are restored, the Sim101 account only performs one check to see if it needs to load any existing orders. If it detects that the first connected provider does not support the instrument type related to the order, it will not display that order anywhere in the platform.

    The 'missing orders' behavior also occurs in NinjaTrader 8, however, the PnL and position will show as expected.

    One work-around would be to disconnect from all connections and then connect to the appropriate connection associated with the asset class that you traded. In your case, connect to FXCM first and then NTBrokerage/CQG.

    I'll submit a feature request to improve this limitation in NinjaTrader 8. I'll update this post when I have a tracking number. EDIT: the tracking number is SFT-2810.

    No changes will be made to the NinjaTrader 7 platform at this point as it will receive critical updates only and all our developmental efforts are focused on NinjaTrader 8.

      Hi Patrick,

      Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply. Just to clarify are you saying:

      1. the missing orders issue will still occur in NT8 if I was trading 2 sim accounts ... but that this may get resolved at a later date
      2. none of these issues would occur in either NT7 or NT8 if I was trading a live Futures account and a live Forex account concurrently.

      If #2 is indeed the case, will the MAE and MFE of every trade be shown for both live accounts or just the one that connects first.

        You understand this correctly.

        The Account Performance report, by default, includes all accounts. Connection order will not matter when trading with live accounts.

        Pressing the 'Advanced' button will expand the Performance tab to include advanced parameters that you can filter your performance reports by. Unchecking any of the items will activate the filtering of your Performance Report.
