Import Metastock Symbol having & - data to modified Symbol in NT7

    Background
Importing Metastock end of Day data (symbol already created through Import List), where few of the scrip having name with characters "&" and "-", both would not allow for a valid symbol in NT7

Through Import list option, I have already modified the select few symbols to suitable name such that, NT7 could have valid symbol

    e.g.
    S&P changed to S_P
    GLOBAL-N changed to GLOBAL_N

    Query:
Now while importing Metastock data, what caution, or care should I take such that, Metastock Symbol S&P data would be moved to S_P, and so is the case with GLOBAL-N to GLOBAL_N

Somewhere in symbol properties, i guess, there is an option to provide data provider symbol name recognition details, which could refer from NT7 symbol, though both could be same, i guess, if someone can guide me, this could be solvable.

    e.g. just illustration
If Yahoo Symbol is S&P.AX, same could be changed to S_P in NT7 while specifying Data provider is Yahoo, but in our case, it would METASTOCK

I think, I am referring to mapping, something explained here https://ninjatrader.com/support/foru...ad.php?t=55101 in post # 6 but in my query, data provider / source is end of day data from metastock
    Thank you.

    Hello analyst,

Unfortunately there is no symbol map setting for MetaStock as MetaStock is not a supported data feed provider of NinjaTrader. The symbol map is used when you connect to a data feed/broker and not during the manual import of historical data.

If you now import the historical data, am I correct it does not work for the instruments in question as the symbols do not match? It is possible to change the instrument symbol in MetaStock, so it matches the symbol in NinjaTrader? If so, please do so and check if this will allow you to import historical data for these instruments.

Thanks, sad to hear. Metastock, one can change the symbol, but lets me check, how feasible to do it on daily basis, or if i can tweak my end of day data file for those select few counters.

If you now import the historical data, am I correct it does not work for the instruments in question as the symbols do not match?
      No, it won't recognize

It is possible to change the instrument symbol in MetaStock, so it matches the symbol in NinjaTrader?

Possible Alternate, and need to see, how practical for me to do it daily, or for select few, i should resort to ASCII file import....

If so, please do so and check if this will allow you to import historical data for these instruments.
      Thanks

        Just a follow up question,

I am not able to plot new chart so easily after Metastock (Last) data import. Exchange time template, Exchange, Category all appears normal, but only few are getting loaded (chart).

Only visually distinction that i could observe is that
Under Historical Data Manager, beneath EDIT Tab, not all the symbols are appearing as it appears under Instrument List category

So, whatever few (4-5) are there under Historical Data Manager-> Edit Tab, only those symbol chart, i am able to load but I know under Instrument List, i was able to successfully import all metastock data symbol.

On first Import of data, it takes about 30-45 minutes to import about 1600 symbols, on second / subsequent import, time reduces to under 30 seconds, but i could see, data is not updated.

What I am doing wrong, It is very difficult to load chart. How to ensure that All symbols beneath Instrument List, also appears under Historical Data Manager - Edit tab

        Please Help

As per your description, it only imported historical data for the instruments you see under Historical Data Manager-->Edit-tab.

Do you notice any consistency between the instruments that did (not) import?

I suggest to try the following. Please remove the instrument list in the Instrument Manager you created and try the import once more. If the instrument for which you import data does not exist, NinjaTrader will automatically create a new stock instrument for it. From the link below under 'How to import historical data from a text file'.

          • Any data imported where the instrument does not exist in the Instrument Manager will automatically be imported as a "Stock" instrument type

realised, After Import (Last), a window appears, and there also one has to select all, again.
