Problem trying to use Visual Studio 2015

    Hi -

I'm just trying to use Visual Studio 2015 Professional to do simple debugging. I followed the steps in one of your videos using the sample MA Crossover strategy: 1) open ES chart, 2) apply strategy to chart, 2) open Ninjascript Editor, load strategy, make sure debug is checked, 3) click visual studio button in editor toolbar, 4( VS 2015 starts fine, and I open strategy source file and set a breakpoint at the start of OnBarUpdate and OnStateChanged, 5) attach to NinjaTrader process (it says its loaded the strategy and is using actively managed).

I immediately get a break with the following exception:

    ExecutionEngineException was unhandled:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' occurred in Unknown Module.

If I click "Stop Debugging", NinjaTrader terminates. Any ideas?

    Hello,
    Thank you for the post.

I wanted to check, you noted that you are using a strategy, could you test one of the stock indicators such as the SMA to see if you still get the exception? This would be a test to see if this is related to the strategy and its code or something else.

I look forward to being of further assistance.

      Hi -

Yes - I tried this with the default ATR indicator (after recompiling in Debug mode).

The exception appears to occur instantaneously after I click the Attach to Process button.

I also tried just running Visual Studio 2015, running NinjaTrader 8 (8.0.13.1) with no charts (default workspace), Windows 10 latest updates, 32gb of memory, and trying to attach VS to the ninjatrader.exe. Same thing happens.

There is another message from VS:
"Your app has enetered a break state, but no code is currently executing that is supported by the selected debug engine (e.g. only native runtime code is executing).

This implies to me that the exception is happening as VS id trying to do the attach (because that's when it's running unmanaged code).

Something very basic is going wrong here.

I'm going to try and do all this from my laptop and see if I get the same thing. I'll let you know.

        Hello,

        Thank you for the reply.

This could potentially be due to the exception settings you currently have in visual studio, can you tell me are you able to "Continue" through the exception and then debug? It would also be helpful to know if this is isolated to this pc or not.

I look forward to being of further assistance.

            Hello Rudmax,

            Thank you for the reply.

I am unsure of your reply here, are you still having difficulties? You noted you would be testing from another PC, did you have the same result?

I look forward to being of further assistance.
