Alert Condition Offset question

Hello,
When using the Offset function applied to Tick, could you confirm the value entered in the Offset Field is automatically assigned the correct plus/minus sign according to the parameters selected?

Help says "An offset is a value that is added or subtracted from the actual item's value". This isn't clear (to me at least!) how added or subtracted is determined - automatically, or by specifying. I haven't been able to find any examples, videos etc using Offset

I have attached a screenshot of a 'Crosses above from below' example.

I want the Alert to trigger if price during current bar reaches 5 ticks before crossing above the current high of the OHL indicator, from below. i.e. when Price reaches Current Day High Offset by MINUS 5 ticks (rising market, price approaching Current Day High, thus a lower price).

Simply put, is the Alert configured correctly, or do I need to enter -5 in the Offset Field?

Hello Bruce,

Yes, a negative value would be used to subtract from the price with the offset.

(negative) -5 would remove 5 points (or ticks / percent) from the price, (positive) 5 would add 5 points (or ticks / percent).

The only way I would know of to confirm this, would be to test. Draw a line a specific price. Then create a condition that triggers if the price crosses the line and use an offset of a point or a few ticks. In the alert action print the current price to see where this alert triggered.
