Usually depends what you want personally. True means you get values at the end of the bar. False means you get it tick by tick but can be more resource intensive and such.

if I'm looking for an accurate real-time picture of where the VWAP is at a particular moment in the day, would you say that the tick by tick is the way to go?

i've been testing with two charts open (one tick by tick and one calculating on the close of the bar), and the VWAP only slowly moves over the course of the day when the value is set to TRUE.

so, if I'm trading based on the VWAP's relation to the POC at any given point in the day, there's more of a lag if it's calculated on close. and i don't know if it's above or below the POC on the 3 minute chart.

but if it's set to tick by tick, the SD lines get very compressed to the point of being useless and the VWAP jumps around a lot more.

which is the better overall picture of the VWAP?

I am not a VWAP expert, but for the most accurate calculations you want to capture every single tick as it comes in at market start and leave it running on a tick by tick calculation.
