SHARE: Change volume of NT8 only

Script updated May 6, 2018, see post #7 for additional info

Do you have alerts going off too often and just want to quiet them down?

Do you want to change the volume of alerts NT8 makes without having to change the main window's volume?

Do you have music and/or videos playing while you trade and want to be able to hear them more clearly?

This addon allows you to change the volume specifically for NT8 without it effecting the main windows volume. Please note though, it will not effect system alerts fired off by NT8.

Usable in windows Vista and newer.

        Hello gubbar924,

Thank you for your post and the add on.

Do you see the NinjaTrader application appear in the Volume Mixer after it makes a sound, such as connecting or the compile sound when compiling NinjaScript?

I look forward to your response.

          Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the tip, yes I see it after compiling, but I'm still a little baffled as to why I've never seen it before, considering I compile quite frequently and even have recently tested an alert script. I guess I just wasnt looking at the right time (most likely between restarting NT8 and the first time any kind of sound is played)

Thank you both @sledge and @NinjaTrader_PatrickH for pointing this out

Does it control the volume mixer level, or is it more fine grained?

I have difficulties with nt set at 1 and main volume up(for other windows), nt is still too loud.

              • Cleaned up some code to work more efficiently

              • Added a check to make sure the volume set in the Volume menu always matches the volume from the windows mixer (in case the volume in the mixer was changed after setting a volume level from the menu)

              • Changed volume selection range from 0-10 to 0-25

              @sledge
As far as I know, this script only follows the NT8 specific mixer, so if you have the main windows volume set pretty high, regardless of how low you set NT8 volume, it may end up louder than you'd like. Having said that though, I've added more increments for volume. The range now goes up to 25, so setting the volume to 1 in NT8 will now set the mixer volume to 4 (previously it would get set to 10). If its still not quiet enough, you could manually change line 48 in the script. But it'll start making that list pretty lengthy, at that point you might as well replace the menuitems with a slider instead.
