    how to update Instrument.txt

    Dear Guru's,

    hopefully you can help.

    I would like bulk/mass create a new list of instruments, using yahoo or google as the data feed.

    I have added such instruments using the interface, but when i want to add about 150, it will take a long time.

    As I understand it, the Instruments.txt file can be used to bulk add instruments.

    There is a text description in the file on how to do this, however it would be great to have an example/template on how to do this.
    Have any of you added your own instruments via the instruments.txt file?

    I was surprised that when i added my own instrument, via the user interface, it was not visible in the instrument.txt file.
    Are new instruments, which have been added via the user interface, not updated to the instruments.txt file?

    Many thanks

    Hello dmcneela,

    Thank you for your note.

    The easiest way to import a list of symbols would be to copy paste the symbol list in the box shown at the following link,

    Or you can click the Load button on the window shown at the link above, and pass it a list you have in the form of a .txt file.

    Under both approaches, you must make sure the symbols adhere to the standards listed just below step 2 at the link above.

    When you refer to Instruments.txt file, would you please provide more information on what file you are referring to? Did you create this file?

    I look forward to your reply.

      Hi Alan P.,

      thanks for your reply.
      Unfortunately my question it not about importing a list of stock symbols, it is about creating new instruments with their own data-feed (e.g. Yahoo, Google etc.)

      The steps to create them are in this post --> see below

      Any other ideas?

      Many thanks
      [QUOTE=NinjaTrader_RyanM1;279595]fury661,

      * From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the menu Tools > Instrument Manager
      * Press the "New" button
      * *Enter in instrument specific information and select the appropriate exchange (add Default exchange for equities in addition to the actual exchange)
      * Fill in any relevant information under the "Misc" tab such as symbol mapping for your target connectivity provider
      * Press the "OK" button

        Hello dmcneela,

        The steps I provided will add these instruments in the instrument manager without having to go one by one, so you can import a list of 150 symbols.

        Is this not what you are trying to do?

        I look forward to your reply.

          Hi Alan P.

          thanks for the reply.

          I am not just trying to add a new list of symbols, as they would just be "fed" from my current data feed.

          I would like to use Yahoo, or Google as the data feed.
          And to do this, as far as i understand, I have to add the Instrument/Symbol and also maintain the data-feed connection --> see "Understanding the Misc tab" --> "Symbol Mapping" in this in this link:

          Also see the image i have attached.

          Many thanks

              Hi Alan P.,

              i'm confused.

              In post 2 i don't see any way to add the connection to Yahoo or google.

              Am i missing something?

              BTW the Instruments.txt file i was referring to is in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\NinjaTrader 7\db" folder

              Many thanks

                Hello dmcneela,

                Following the directions in post two will automatically add the symbol for that connection.

                Please let us know if you need further assistance.
