    Migrating Strategies to another PC

    Hello,

    I have the following situation:

    1) Old PC is having 10 charts and each chart having its own strategy. All saved in a Workspace and works as it should after restarts. I just go to strategies tab and enable them.
    2) Installed Ninja on new PC and copied over Workspace folder there.
    3) When I trigger Ninja on a new PC all my charts are opened with correct time/range settings, but not a single strategy is loaded on the charts and therefore strategy tab is empty.

Any chance to migrate Workspace so that strategies are also loaded on the charts?

    Thanks,
    redduke

    Hello redduke,

You would need more than the workspace.

You would need the scripts, workspaces, and database.

I recommend using the backup and restore.

Below I have provided a link to the Backup & Restore section of our help guide.

Sounds to me like you didn't finish setting up NinjaTrader onto the new PC.

Did you install all the strategies onto the new PC?
Did you test that each strategy can be started manually in its own chart window?

Why would the database need to be copied?

In my experience, this has not been necessary.

        Am I missing something?

Yes of course. All strategies and indicators were copied and all works when added manually.

            Chelsea,

I am aware of the backup but trying to avoid this option as all I need are strategies added to charts with the same parameters.

            Thank you

              Hello bltdavid,

The database contains the instances and previous trade history of strategies.

                Quite true, of course.

But transferring the old database to the new machine is not strictly necessary to achieve solution to OP's problem, is it?

                EDIT:
Hmm, please explain what you mean by 'instances'.

Perhaps the old database must be transferred after all?
(because the workspace expects the strategies to already be loaded and visible in the Strategies tab, which is what those 'instances' are you refer to, because those are actually stored in the database -- is this theory correct?)

You can't really expect NinjaTrader Support to give you another way.

The backup & restore is their official method to achieve what you are asking.

                  Just my 2˘.

                    Hello bltdavid,

Another word for instance is occurrence..
If you were to add the same indicator multiple times to a chart, each one would be a running instance on the chart.
Basically I mean each row of an added strategy on the strategies tab.

Both the workspace and database are necessary (as well as the exact same script code). The strategy occurrences are saved in the database and the workspace is basically pointing which one of those saved strategies to pull up.
