Is there any way to increase the size of the disk cache (I guess it is the tmp folder?)? I have tons of spare disk space and would like to just cache all of the pre-processing so that the backtest gets started quicker.

Increase Disk Cache
With long backtests and particularly when switching between different instruments, there is a lot of waiting around and disk activity. NT appears to be building bars and stuff. But my database is barely changing so it is doing exactly the same thing each time.

Hello AlgoJason,
Thanks for opening the thread.
Chart data is saved in the Documents/NinjaTrader 8/db/ folder. It will be downloaded to this location and then read from this location to build charts. There would still be disk activity to read this that cannot be avoided. If you are looking for a performance boost in this area, it would likely be in a HDD with larger internal cache or by using an SSD. The other alternative would be if NinjaTrader kept chart data it was not using in memory, which would greatly increase the memory footprint.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.JimNinjaTrader Customer Service
