Market Data

I just switched from CQG Qtrader to NInjatrader. I have bought Ninjatrader and funded an account and am ready to trade but I am a bit confused what Market Data is.
Do I need to pay the $14 to buy Market Data for what I trade. What is Market Data for?
When I traded with CQG QTrader it was through a bank and it was all set up for me.
Could you please tell me what Market Data is and why I would need it please.

It is on this page. https://ninjatrader.com/MDE I trade gold and oil so at the bottom of the page it is 7$ for comex and $7 for nymex

I have contacted them three times and their answers have not answered my questions.
