The impact of this error is substantial, so I'm starting a new thread though several others (?) do seem to talk around it. Per email with NT Platform Support, "QA" is aware of this, and plans a fix for v8.0.16 -- which cannot get here too quickly, as this has a show-stopping high impact on my strategies.
Symptom: The Strategy Builder process cannot be completed, as this error occurs --> "Unhandled exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." In C#-speak, this is a NullReferenceException.
Cause: Per Josh, "The bug here emerges when using an extra data series and then setting any internal variable as an action in the Strategy Builder."
Supplementary: I have also seen this error when using a direct reference to a text string to set a string variable, even when an extra data series is merely invoked (but not actually used in any Set conditions).
