How to load data in chart for index like Dow Jones Industrial Average?

    Hello,

When I load data in chart for index like Dow Jones Industrial Average by connecting Kinetick or IB, I got error saying historical data can not be found for symbol like INDU. What is the proper way to load data for index like Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq 100, Russell 3000, and S&P 500?

    Thanks,
    weiwei

    Hello weiwei,

    Thank you for your post.

With the exception of ^RUA, I was able to load ^NDX, ^SP500 and ^DJIA by default from the Kinetick connection.

If you cannot load these, I would suggest resetting your instruments and restarting NinjaTrader.

To reset your instruments please: go to the Tools menu, select the Options menu item, select the Data tab, and then click on 'Reset Instruments'.

Then restart NinjaTrader and test these 3 again.

If further issues, please try setting your Daily charts to the Default 24/7 session template.

Right click in your chart and select Data Series.
    • In the Data Series menu, set the "Session Template" property to "Default 24/7", then click OK.

Lastly, for ^RUA please go to Tools--> Instrument Manager--> locate the RUA instrument and select "Edit".

From the Instrument editor, click on the "Misc" tab--> scroll down the Symbol Map section and on the Kinetick row ensure it says "RUA.X" (without quotes). Then press OK and test again.

Please let me know if you see further issues with these daily EOD indexes from Kinetick.

        qfweiwei,

Please remove the ^ prefix and just use the symbol name DJIA when importing.

            Hello,

Please go to Tools--> Instrument Manager--> Locate the DJIA and select "Edit".

Is this configured as a stock or an index? Please make sure it is set to an index.

I would suggest deleting your current instrument and manually adding this instrument configured as an Index.

Please follow the instructions below to add an instrument in the NinjaTrader 7 Instrument Manager.
            • From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the menu Tools > Instrument Manager
            • Press the "New" button
            • Enter instrument specific information and select the appropriate exchange.
            • Fill in any relevant information under the "Misc" tab, including the symbol mapping for Kinetick
            • Press the "OK" button

Master Instrument: (user defined name) DJIA
            Instrument Type: Index
            Tick Size: 0.01
            Session Template: Default 24/7
            Symbol Map: Kinetick: INDU.X
            Exchange: Default
