Connecting Oanda Account Error

I have an oanda demo account that I want to run an ATS on but I can't get it to connect properly.


Under My NinjaTrader Continuum it only has a username and password text field. What is My Ninja Trader Continuum and how does it know I am trying to log in with an Oanda account, becuase there is no field to select that exchange so I am curious as to how this is even supposed to sign in.

I will link the instructions below but they do not work. How does the software know I am trying to use Oanda when it just asks for a generic username and password? How does it know that username is an oanda account?

Thanks for the post.

Oanda accounts, as well as others that connect through NinjaTrader Continuum, use CQG technology to connect in NinjaTrader. When you login with your username and password CQG will access your Oanda account based on those credentials.

Unfortunately, Oanda demos are not supported on NinjaTrader, only live Oanda accounts are supported.

Can I still run automated trading strategies on the live market data? Basically I have backtested my strategy, and I am ready to test it with simulated money before live money. I have forex.com connected through NT but thats only a 30 day trial then I have to make another account. I plan to test my strategy for a couple of months non stop just like if I was using a live account, so I need to be able to run live trades with simulated currency.

Yes, you can run automated trading strategies with our free demo data using the Sim101 account. These Forex demos do 'expire' after 30 days but you can extend your trial here:

Thanks for the help, I was able to get the sim101 account and the free live data working. This might be a dumb question, but why are there non USD pairs in the forex menu? Can I trade EUR/CHF even if my account only holds USD? I also notice there are only 5 USD pairs as well. On forex.com there are a couple dozen pairs in USD that you can trade in.

With a live Forex account you will want to confirm with your broker which instruments you are able to trade with your account configuration.

For the demo, yes you may trade non-usd pairs without issue.

As for missing pairs, NinjaTrader comes preloaded with the most commonly traded instruments. Should you wish to add an instrument to your database that is not located in the preloaded lists, please follow these steps:

• Navigate to the Control Center > Tools > Instruments window.
• Left-click on the ‘add’ button that appears near the lower right-hand corner of the Instruments window.
• Enter instrument-specific symbol mapping, exchanges, and other information on the Instrument editor that appears. This information will largely depend on your broker or data feed provider’s specific settings regarding the instrument in question.
• Left-click the OK button once each field has been filled out with correct information.

The new instrument has now been created in your database. Should you wish to add this instrument to an instrument list:

• Navigate to the Control Center > Tools > Instruments Lists window.
• Left-click to select the instrument list that you wish to add this instrument to in the left panel, then left-click on the ‘add’ button at the bottom of the right-hand panel.
• Type the name and (if applicable) front month of your instrument in the search field that appears. Press the Enter button on your keyboard to confirm this change.
• Left-click the OK button to close the Instrument Lists window.

Your new instrument is now added to the instrument list of your choice.
