Volume Spread Analysis and FOMO of Strong Directional Moves

By NinjaTrader Team

Traders often get excited by a strong directional move—so much so that FOMO (fear of missing out) kicks in and they join the trend. What they might not see is that the trend is experiencing exhaustion and that their participation may be ill-timed. Analyzing the market through the principles of volume spread analysis (VSA) can help traders make better, more informed decisions.

In this week’s episode of “Trader’s Workshop,” Trade Guide Founder Gavin Holmes discusses how volume and price behavior can be used to determine what the “smart money” is doing with respect to accumulation and distribution in the futures markets. Gavin explains that while these concepts are not new, they are often overlooked and deserve a closer look by traders who understand basic supply and demand principles.

Additional topics discussed in this free livestream:

  • Trading range, volume and closing price to VSA

  • When it might be ok to go against the current trend

  • When the market shows a shakeout situation

  • How no demand/no supply situations are defined

  • Trading over-the-counter FX and currency futures

Gavin continuously evolves his VSA analysis and makes it available on the NinjaTrader platform via the NinjaTrader Ecosystem.
